Have you got any more detail on that? I know they were found relatively recently but I thought the Dead Sea Scrolls are used by the WTS to show Isaiah's authenticity.

OK, so what's the deal with the Cyrus prophecy?
by Amha·aret ini'd really like an answer to this.
its probably been discussed already and if so, feel free to send the link.. as a dub, i always marvelled at this prophecy - how jehovah was able to name the person who would overthrow babylon and in what manner he would do it (drying up the river, gates unlocked, etc.
) and so far in advance too.

As a dub, I always marvelled at this prophecy - how Jehovah was able to name the person who would overthrow Babylon and in what manner he would do it (drying up the river, gates unlocked, etc.) and so far in advance too. I loved the Isaiah and Daniel books and all the "deep" matters like prophecy and their fulfillment.
For a long time, I didn't want to know the truth about this prophecy and wanted to believe it was as I was taught. However, I feel ready for it now so hit me with it!

How Many Sit on the Fence?
by sammielee24 ini was checking out another topic and pulled off something that wobble said.. given that - how many of you would go back if the wts decided to enact shunning for everybody who was not active?
if tomorrow they decided that da'ing or fading or in simple terms, being inactive for any reason whatsoever, was a shunning offense - how many would start going back immediately just so their family wouldn't be cut off?
how many would not go back and would instead would be willing to stand firm on their belief that the wts is wrong in what they teach?

I don't think they'd want me back! There's no way I'd keep my mouth shut about all the untold scandals regarding the dubs. And the elders probably realise that. Which may be why I never here from them - even after that recent "loving" reactivation WT study article.
I was at a jw funeral recently and that was enough sales pitch for at least a year! Another brother in the same cong has just died but I physically can't take returning there again so soon!
If they do bring about this notion of DAing inactive ones, then I'll still speak to my in family. If they don't want to talk to me, or see my son growing up, then that's on them. As much as I love them, I'm not walking on egg shells for their sake anymore.

Question for Confession or anyone else who might now
by Amha·aret ini've just been reading the letter confession wrote to his mother.
i noticed the following quote:.
the first essential for study is the right condition of mind and heart, appreciating that jehovah grants understanding only to the meek, and not to the stiff-necked.

JW's don't know their own faith
by wobble ini think this may well have been done to death before, but it still surprised me to find it so close to home.. i t has been pointed out that many jw's can't explain their doctrines, but i never thought that would apply to my sister.she is a super-culty dub,in for over sixty years, and during a somewhat heated conversation at the weekend she kept throwing things at me as "trooves" and i had to keep saying "you need to research that".
for example i told her that according to the wt jesus was only the mediator for the 144,000. she did not agree that was wt teaching,so i just said the above.. it amazes me that i will have to educate her,ex-pioneer and great door-knocker,as to what she is supposed to believe, before i show her the errors,if we ever get down to a proper discussion.
i don't really want to though,i think she and her husband need and deserve the borg.. are you surprised at the ignorance of thir own religion by witnessses, despite all those meetings and hours of study?.

Like AS said, we were all like that at one time, maybe even up till quite recently.
I'm sure many will agree that we've learned more about dub beliefs and their origins on here than we ever did at meetins, assemblies and conventions.

An Absolute Must See!
by AK - Jeff inhttp://www.atheistnation.net/video/?video/02542/atheist/religulous-full-movie/ .
as most on this forum are aware, and as has happened to many of them perhaps, i have run through a common metamorphosis of jw, xjw, looking for christianity, doubts, where are we now, i don't know?.
a friend of mine, who has gone thru similar metamorphosis, sent me this link.

Jeff,
It was spun to make us believe that these myths came about because jesus was real - ignoring the fact that those myths are way older! Just read any WT or Awake about the flood to see what i mean. They say that because there are flood myths in various cultures in far-flung localities around the world, then that makes the story true coz Noah's sons told their kids the story and so on. In spite of all the evidence to the contary...so yes, we did believe it as we were spoon-fed the "evidence" that supported the WTs position and steered away from anything conflicting.
Btw, I can't get the movie to play for me. I click the play symbol and I get a pop up offering me a ringtone subscripption! Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Haven't watched the movie yet. Will do in a mo. But what an interesting comparision chart above. Ties in with my self-induced wordly education where I'm reading about common myths of various cultures and world religions at the same time.
Thanks for posting it.

Hi Blondie,
Hardly a coincidence! I wonder how many dubs have noticed that though! :(
